Ash Hicks

Ashley is my name and adventure is the game. I love the environment, science, music, teaching, and anything that involves the water.

One of my favorite things to do is explore the ocean. It explains why I love being a Dive Control Specialist! Not only are you constantly learning and meeting new people, but you can explore new environments and see beautiful sights few other people on the planet get to experience. If I had to describe what scuba diving is like, I would say a scuba diver is like an astronaut. The environment is weightless. There are strange and gorgeous features, and the life is almost out of this world. One day, I hope to join the Navy as a part of their elite divers program.

Writing is a passion I developed and have recently started to cultivate. My first endeavor are a series of books. The first is complete at 480 pages. The second is at 180 and counting. So far, I have published a handful of scuba related articles on hubpages, but I want to expand my collection and write about topics ranging from diving to physics to babysitting!

Here some other things about me:

I attended the U of A for a major in environmental biology. I was also the salutatorian at my high school (of over 700 students!). I love to learn and take classes about any subject.

Music is one of my activities, and playing my violin is one way I relax at the end of a stressful day. I have been playing for over ten years, and 'Pops' or movie music is some of my favorite music to play. Although, I can never say no to a good Bloch or Hayden piece. Seeing sheet music in general is enough to get me giddy.

Oh, I am also a vegetarian. I'll make sure to post a few articles on cooking the vegetarian way! I am not a great chef, but I have learned a few tricks along the way!
